Entry #3: Digital identity

          With the constantly development of technology, social media is indispensable. Teenagers cannot hang out with friends if they don’t have smart phone by their side to take (as what it’s called) the “memorable moment” to “share” with their friends while completely forget to live in that moment. Then, a perfect picture “was born” even though it just reflects the true so lightly. This is the normal issue that is easily found in our society. Everyone wants a beautiful image to show friends. It said that people tends to show good things and hide what is not. So, they totally have right to do that. That is freedom of speech of people, there is no reason to ban those things happen. In my opinion, I prefer people who live and to be honest with their life more than people live one real life and show the world another more beautiful life.

          This is Yang Su Bin, a funny and fatty (what she calls herself) Korean girl. As almost people want to be perfect on social media, she is the opposite. On her personal social media, such as Facebook or Instagram, if it’s not an ugly moment, it will be a picture which is trying-to-be-ugly face on it. She became famous due to a video recorded she was trying to cut her hair, but she failed. That video got about 176.000 likes. I’m not talking about how many likes she got or she pretended to be ugly to get more likes, I just wonder why a person who is fat and doesn’t hide that she is fatty got that many fans? Perhaps people love her honesty and her funny, and realize appearence is not everything. That is reason why they love her. She can edit her photo perfectly before post it for people can see. But she didn’t, instead, she shows her real life.

         I knew two platforms of her social media, one is Facebook and another is Instagram. Every post in those two platforms as I see is just one world, and it’s her. There is no big difference between those two platforms. She is a makeup-er and a guess for some cuisine show. So, on her social network are clip or images teaching make up or clip records while she’s eating, most of them she tries to be ugly. But they both reflects her real life, still funny and ugly, as she wants her social network to be looked like. She is not frequently post pictures or clips, the newest one is from Feb 4. Besides, because she let people see her real life, when people see her outside the social media, they love her more. Not like some hot girl online, being beautiful and sexy online while they are not. But this girl, Su Bin, is not the same. So, another reason people like her even though she is not skinny and beautiful because she is real and she also contribute hope in girls who don’t have a good looking in the bright future. Just be yourself, be confident and you will be wonderful.
